A double-body vase in painted enamel (falangcai), made for the Qing imperial court during the Qianlong reign.
Falangcai, or painted enamel, was the most tightly controlled porcelain of the court: white bodies from the Jingdezhen kilns were enamelled in the imperial workshop by court painters, for the pleasure of the emperor and empress alone.
Made during the sixty-year Qianlong reign, when the emperor’s taste for antiquity and display met the fullest resources of the imperial kilns. It is held in The Palace Museum, Beijing, and the image is reproduced here with the museum’s credit.
