A tube-ear vase in blue-and-white (underglaze cobalt), made for the Qing imperial court during the Jiaqing reign.
Blue-and-white is painted in cobalt under the glaze and fired once at high temperature; the idiom became the backbone of Ming and Qing porcelain and the export trade that carried it around the world.
Made early in the Jiaqing reign, in the continuing manner of the Qianlong court that preceded it. It is held in The Palace Museum, Beijing, and the image is reproduced here with the museum’s credit.
